Position: Opelika Chamber Marketing Intern
Reports to: Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy
The Opelika Chamber Marketing Intern position is a role that assists the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy in the development of internal and external marketing and communications efforts as well as supporting other departmental communications needs. For the Opelika Chamber of Commerce marketing team, the ideal marketing intern would be someone who blends creativity, professionalism, and community awareness. Since your department handles everything from events and storytelling to brand strategy and social media, the intern needs to be both creative and dependable. We are drawn to candidates with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high-quality customer support; tech-savvy with a love for social media and connecting to our member base; possess excellent time management skills; comfortable dealing with a broad spectrum of business industries and people.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Implement a communication calendar and digital strategy, including content creation, posting, and interaction of our leadership programs on social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook and Instagram.
- Contributes to the membership retention plan, by engaging with members through social media – Liking, Commenting, and Sharing our members information weekly.
- Assists the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy with press releases, articles, invitations, posts as needed.
- Serve as photographer/videographer for the Chamber, capturing photos/video at chamber programs, special events, meetings, and community events as needed.
- Serve as staff support for the Director of Workforce and Business Development for the research and development of workforce-related programming.
- Assists with the design and printing of materials for events and programs as needed.
- Serve as staff support for Chamber events, retail promotions, fundraisers, seminars, retreats, social events, and special meetings as directed by the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy.
- Interns should be prepared to assist with front desk coverage and support Chamber events as needed, including occasional evening or weekend commitments.
- Other duties assigned by the Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy, Department leaders regarding communication needs, or the President/CEO.
Desired Experience and Required Attributes:
- High school diploma, some college, or college degree preferred.
- Available 10-15 hours per week.
- Interns are expected to provide their own laptop for the duration of the internship. The device should be capable of running standard business software and maintaining reliable internet access.
- Comfortable with accountability, takes ownership of your work.
- Strong time management & organizational skills required.
- Enthusiasm and a positive attitude, ability to maintain grace under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Team-player mentality, and willingness to support colleagues even if it’s outside of job description.
- Passion for talking to people, relationship building, and building bridges.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. with ease and willingness to roll up your sleeves for event set up.
- Technically proficient with working capabilities in the following programs:
- Microsoft Office Suite with excellent skills in Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Social media platforms to include Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram & TikTok.
- The ideal candidate should have working knowledge or be willing to learn these platforms, and others including GrowthZone, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
Compensation: This is an unpaid learning-based internship that offers hands-on experience, mentorship, networking with local business leaders, and professional development opportunities. We will work around your schedule.
